Thus saith the LORD, "Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls."

![]() ![]() On June 17, 1775 the Battle of Bunker Hill took place. Without a doubt it is one of the most important victories in the U.S. War for Independence. The Battle of Bunker Hill was fought during the Siege of Boston, it gave considerable encouragement to the revolutionary cause. The colonists became alarmed at the build up of British troops off of the coast, when they realized that the British planned to occupy Dorchester Heights on the Boston Peninsula. A decision had to be made and the colonists decided that actions had to be taken to stop the British buildup in the territory, so as to protect themselves from attack. The colonists thought that the movements by the British, was the last straw, and commenced to protect their land and freedom. General Prescott took 1,200 of his soldiers to fortify Bunker Hill on the of night June 16. British General, Gage, dispatched 2,300 troops under the command of Major General Howe to take control of the hill. So it came to be that General Prescott did not actually fortify Bunker's Hill, but Breed's Hill instead. The Battle of Bunker Hill actually took place on Breed's Hill. At about 3:00 PM Thomas Gage, the British commander, ordered men to try and take control of the hill. With the British forces were established on the ground at the base of the hill they proceeded to charge. Once the British came within range, the colonists began firing, and the British stated falling quite rapidly. Although technically, the British won the battle because they took control of the hill, the fact was that the British had suffered more than a thousand casualties out of about 2,300 who fought, while the colonists suffered no more than 600 casualties from their estimated troops of 2,500 to 4,000. The British had lost too many men to be effective in the area.
